A very good set of Robert Browning's 1868-1869 masterpiece featuring his long epic blank verse poem composed of 21,000 lines. "The Ring and the Book" was published by Smith, Elder & Co. London. A First edition and printing. 4 volumes, Hardcover. Mixed issue: with volumes numbered 1,2, III, IV. Small 8vo. publisher's green beveled cloth with gilt stamped titles to the spine, borders and decorations stamped in black, colored endpapers. Bound by Hanbury & Simpson, Fleet Street, London. Ad for The Poetical Works of Mr. Robert Browning at the end of volume 1. Inner hinges of volumes 1 and 4 are cracked, Ex-Libris book plates of Roger H. West on the front pastedowns of each volume, and early previous owners gift inscription in ink on the flyleaf of volume 1. A bit of spotting to the cloth, corners bumped and rubbed, spine tips bumped and some wrinkling to the outer cloth boards of volume IV. A bit of toning and foxing to interior pages. The cloth slipcase is still in good condition with a bump to the corners and some separation of the cloth along the edges. Overall, a very good four volume set of Brownings 1868-69 first edition.
