An outstanding copy! Here are three of Milton's most important poems, collected in one volume. Paradise Lost is attractively illustrated. This volume is a close reprint of the 1688 printing, which was the first illustrated edition using John Baptiste de Medina's illustrations from the original plates. Small folio - 12 1/4" x 8". The first title illustrated with 14 full-page still bright and clean engravings, including frontispiece portrait of the author by R. White with Dryden's epigram, with all 12 plates bound in their correct place. Late 18th-century half calf and marbled boards, leather spine label gilt. Condition: Boards and corners rubbed and worn; horizontal split to the leather along the upper spine. Front joint starting; armorial bookplate. Light dampstaining in the upper margin; scattered soiling and a few spots; a few short marginal tears, not affecting text. Provenance: The Michael Freedman Collection 2025. Originally acquired from an Old Town Alexandria, Virginia private collection.
