A superb, unusually well‑preserved example of the coveted Superfine Edition of the New Devotional and Practical Pictorial Family Bible (Nelson & Phillips, New York, 1879). A massive folio in English, richly illustrated throughout and complete, including Old and New Testaments, Apocrypha, Concordance, Psalms in Metre, and the abridged Smith’s Dictionary of the Bible.
 
Condition: Bound in embossed and gilt‑stamped leather with spine in five raised bands with intricate gilt tooling, gilt edges, and gilt dentelles; Leather rubbed and worn at spine tips, with intermittent foxing to pages throughout, but structurally exceptional. Hinges tight, binding sound, pages clean and unmarked.
 
Includes 1053 pages, over 2,500 illustrations, 23 full‑page engravings, 17 color pages (maps and photo plates), and unused family record sections at rear.
 
An extraordinary survival—large 19th‑century family Bibles almost never remain this intact, bright, and fully functional. A standout copy for the serious Bible collector.
