A very good copy of the First Edition and printing of Derleth's eighth murder-mystery featuring Judge Peck and lacking the dust jacket. A scarce copy signed by the prolific writer, anthologist, and publisher on the front free endpaper; "Sincerely August Derleth." A first printing with the Scribner's "A" and seal and the same dates on the title and copyright pages. Condition: 8vo. 229 pages - publishers' original tan boards, front and spine panels stamped in blue. Wear to the edges, with corners and upper spine tip bumped, a few spots to the boards and a small dampstain to the lower spine end. A bit of toning to the interior endpapers. Overall, a very good copy of this scarce signed first edition.
