Robert A. Heinlein’s Beyond This Horizon, published by Fantasy Press in 1948. First edition. One of only 500 numbered copies signed by Heinlein, this being No. 281, from an edition of 3,000 copies.

Making this copy considerably more interesting, Heinlein has additionally inscribed it on the colophon page to George A. Richardson, noted Fantasy Press and science-fiction collector.

Illustrated by Robert Breck.

Octavo. 242 pp. Publisher’s red cloth with titles stamped in gilt on the spine.

CONDITION: Near Fine in a Good or better original $3.00 unclipped dust jacket. Front corners lightly bumped, with some sunning to the edges and spine tips. Binding tight; interior clean and unmarked.

The A. J. Donnell-designed dust jacket shows chipping with some loss to the front panel and upper spine tip, creasing, several closed tears, and some toning/soiling to the rear panel. A few repairs with acid-free tape to the jacket verso.

Originally serialized in 1942 under Heinlein’s pseudonym “Anson MacDonald,” Beyond This Horizon became one of the early cornerstones of his extraordinary science-fiction career.

A scarce signed limited edition made substantially more desirable by Heinlein’s personal inscription to an important early science-fiction collector.
