A very good or better copy of Charles Scribner's Illustrated edition of David Balfour in an outstanding unclipped dust jacket. A 1924 first edition thus, and an early issue with the same date to the title and copyright page with the Scribner Seal but lacking the topstain and pictorial title page. This book features nine color plates by famed illustrator N.C. Wyeth plus the full color matching pastedowns on the book and dust jacket. Condition: 4to. 356pp. publishers' black cloth with color pastedown in fine condition, illustrated endpapers and gilt stamped print along the spine. softening to the spine ends and a small bump to the lower front corner. A previous owner's name and a March 1933 date in ink to the half-title page. The dust jacket is seldom seen in this condition, grading very good or better with the Wyeth pastedown still bright on the cover and the $2.50 price on the front flap. Some chipping to the spine ends and several small, closed tears now repaired on the jacket verso with acid free tape. The dust jacket is not a first issue, but an early printing, with the rear cover listing twenty-nine titles in the Scribner Series of Illustrated Classics with 1927's "The Children of the New Forest" listed as the latest edition to the series. Overall, this is a very collectible copy of David Balfour and would make a terrific addition to your Scribner's illustrated collection.
