A very good copy of the Pantheon Books, 1961 First edition and first printing Signed by Gerhard Adler on the front free endpaper: "To Frances in friendship and gratitude, Gerhard Adler London, August 1961." Adler along with Carl Jung was a major figure in the world of analytical psychology. The Living Symbol is an important book in its field, subtitled 'A Case Study in the Process of Individuation.' Adler died in 1988 and is best known for his translation into English from the original German and editorial work on the Collected Works of Carl Gustav Jung. Condition: 8vo. 463 pages including the Bibliography - Publishers cloth boards with gilt stamped print and decoration to the spine. Wear to the edges, corners and spine ends bumped, a bit of tape residue to the upper and lower boards and some foxing to the outer and lower edges. The book is from the library of the Macdowell Colony, the famous artist retreat in New Hampshire with a stamp on the rear endpaper and another whited out on the upper front endpaper. The Paul Rand designed jacket with the $6.00 price is in very good condition with light edgewear, a scrape to the paper and a small label removed from the lower spine end. Overall, a very good and rare signed copy of Adler's 1961 first edition.
