Erskine Caldwell. God's Little Acre. New York: The Viking Press, 1933. A rare and wonderful presentation copy inscribed, signed and dated by the author on the books half-title page. FIRST EDITION/ FIRST ISSUE in the original $2.50 dust jacket and with the same dates on the title and copyright pages with no other printings listed. Caldwell's inscription takes up most of the half-title page: "For Harold LaFlamme / This copy of God's Little Acre / has Been signed / By / Erskine Caldwell / with / Best wishes / 24 May '82." Enclosed is a small card showing the previous owner paid $175 for the book most probably in 1982 and shipped it off to the 78-year-old Caldwell, who was living in Scottsdale Arizona at the time to be signed. Tipped in is Caldwell's personal 6 1/4" x 7" Memorandum with the note: "Yas Send Book - E. Caldwell. Condition: 8vo. 303 pages - Publisher's full black cloth, stamped in yellow and green on front board and spine, deckled fore-edge, top edge pink, title page printed in red and black. Corners bumped; spine pushed and starting to fray; front hinge cracked at half-title, most probably by the author himself while signing, and a few spots to the black cloth. Original $2.50 dust jacket still in very good condition, unclipped; chipping to fold and spine ends; rubbed with some short tears on the front and back panels; minor wear at the edges.
