This is a good or better copy of Horatio Alger's "Ragged Dick or Street Life in New York with the Bootblacks." The rare first issue copy of "Ragged Dick" including the additional title page featuring Dick standing alone, and with "Fame and Fortune" on the first ad page announced for December. Serialized in The Student and Schoolmate magazine in 1867, A.K. Loring publishers expanded it for publication as a full-length novel in May 1868. It was the first volume in the six-volume "Ragged Dick" Series and became Alger's most popular and bestselling work. Condition: 8vo, 296 pages. The Publishers' original embossed green cloth with some heavy wear to the edges and corners and some rubbing and fraying to the cloth. A slight spine lean. The book has been rebacked with the original cloth backstrip laid down, endpapers have been refreshed, and the front advertisement is partially adhered. Browning and foxing to the interior pages as is usual with chipping to a few of the page edges. Overall, this is a good copy of the RARE 1868 first issue in the publisher's original cloth boards.
