A very good copy of the 1883 First Edition of "Rhyme? and Reason?" by Lewis Carroll and Illustrations by Arthur B. Frost.  FIRST PRINTING. (Williams, Madan, Green 160). Published by Macmillan and Co., London. Featuring Sixty-five illustrations, many full-page, by Arthur B. Frost and nine by Henry Holiday.

This would be Carroll's first major collection of verse and includes "The Hunting of the Snark," and several others previously unpublished.

8vo. 243 pages (5 in x 7 1/4 in.) One page of ads for Works of Lewis Carroll at the rear. Publishers' original light green pictorial cloth stamped in gilt on the covers and spine, coated endpapers and all edges stained yellow.  A few spots to the cloth boards. Typical shelf wear with corners bumped and rubbed, wear along the joints, and spine tips softened with a bit of fraying. The interior surprisingly clean and unmarked with occasional foxing, the original bookseller 7 Shillings notation in pencil on the blank preliminary opposite the half-title. The tissue guard for the frontis illustration is missing.

Overall, a nicer than usual copy of the 1883 first London edition.
