A landmark 1930 first trade edition of Moby Dick, the first widely available printing of Rockwell Kent’s now‑iconic illustrated version. Kent’s stark black‑and‑white woodcut imagery — nearly 280 illustrations including full‑page plates, chapter headpieces, tailpieces, and in‑text cuts — helped redefine Melville’s novel for 20th‑century readers and played a major role in the “Melville Revival.” 
 
One of the most important illustrated books of the century and a cornerstone of any American literature or illustration collection.
 
Thick octavo. xxxi + 825 pages. Bound in black cloth with Kent’s dramatic silver‑stamped breaching whale design on the front board and spine. A near fine copy with bright silver stamping, a minor bump to the front corners, and slight softening to the spine tips.
 
The original scarce unclipped dust jacket is present — very good or better — with some chipping and creasing at the spine tips, a small hole along the lower spine, a few chips to the folds, and several old tape repairs visible on the verso. Scarce in jacket in any condition.
 
A strong, attractive example of the first trade edition of Kent’s masterpiece — a defining work of American book design and one of the most influential illustrated editions of Moby Dick ever produced.
