Robert Frost. New Hampshire: A Poem with Notes and Grace Notes. New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1923

First Edition, First Printing of Frost’s first Pulitzer Prize–winning collection, one of 5,350 copies issued in November 1923. Lacking the scarce dust jacket, but a distinguished association copy, warmly inscribed on the upper front flyleaf: “For Anita Forbes – The best wishes of Robert Frost.” (Anita P. Forbes of Hartford, Connecticut, was an English teacher and book editor), making this a fitting and appealing presentation.

A landmark volume containing several of Frost’s most enduring poems, including “New Hampshire", "Nothing Gold Can Stay,” “Fire and Ice,” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” and illustrated with four woodcuts by J. J. Lankes, integral to the text and including the frontispiece.

Condition: Octavo, 113 pages. Bound in the original green paper boards backed with dark green linen cloth, the spine gilt-lettered, with the gold paper label mounted to the front board and mottled tan wove endpapers. A couple of tiny chips to the edge of the paper label, corners bumped and rubbed, a few finger smudges, spine tips softened with light fraying, and a small bump to the outer front edge. The interior is in nice condition, with only a few small chips and light wear along the lower edges of several leaves. A solid, honest, and appealing copy, elevated by Frost’s inscription.

Overall, a desirable signed example of one of Frost’s most sought-after early titles, increasingly uncommon in collectible condition and especially so with the inscription in the poet's own hand.
