Orlando — Virginia Woolf ~ New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1928. First American Edition, Third Printing.

In 1928 the New York Herald Tribune hailed Orlando as “a poetic masterpiece of the first rank,” and this early American printing remains an appealing example of Woolf’s most playful and genre‑defying novel.

Octavo, 333 pages. Bound in the publisher’s blue cloth, ruled and decorated in blind, with gilt lettering to the spine. A very good copy, showing some spotting to the cloth and a small dampstain at the lower spine end. A faint, hardly noticeable stain appears at the very lower edge near the gutter on a number of interior leaves. The book is square, the binding tight, and the pages clean and unmarked aside from a small “Charles Lauriat Co.” bookseller’s label on the front flyleaf.

Housed in an attractive very good dust jacket, clipped at the corners with the $3.00 price visible on the lower front flap. Light wear with sunning and chipping to the spine ends, and a small dampstain visible along the lower spine panel.

A solid, honest, and appealing early American printing of Woolf’s modernist classic.
