Two very good 1930 First Edition copies of R.C. (Romer Carl) Grey's popular Adventures of a Deep Sea Angler in two different Harper and Brothers variant bindings. Both First editions and printings with the Harper (H-E) Date codes. Includes the portrait photographic frontispiece of R.C. Grey, photo-illustrated endpapers, and 38 plates from photographs taken by the author. Romer spent years fishing the great oceans of the world with his famous brother Zane in search of world record broadbill, swordfish, marlin, shark, and tuna. He made several record catches as described in the book, including a world record Broadbill of 588 lbs. Condition: 4to, 224 pages - Harpers' variant binding #1 in light green cloth with titles stamped in black on the front and spine. Corners bumped, softening to the spine tips, some sunning to the spine, Ex-Libris label of John S. Rowan affixed to the half title page and a bit of foxing to a few preliminary pages. Harpers' variant binding #2 in dark green buckram cloth with titles to the front and spine stamped in gilt. Some spotting and rubbing to the cloth boards, light wear to corners and softening and fraying to the spine tips and some light foxing to a few preliminary pages. Overall, these are nicer than usual copies of the 1930 first edition lacking the dust jackets. Romer C. “Reddy” Grey was often called his brother's shadow. He was an accomplished hunter, fisherman, author, and spent nine seasons in the minor leagues playing just one game in the majors for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He died in 1934 at the age of 59, just a few years after this book was published.
