Robert Penn Warren — All the King’s Men
New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1946 Second Printing; First‑Issue Dust Jacket
A handsome second printing of Warren’s Pulitzer Prize–winning masterpiece, with [b.7.46] ** on the copyright page and housed in the scarce first‑state dust jacket.
Condition ~ Very Good. Publisher’s red cloth with gilt spine titles, showing a few spots to the cloth and bumping to the lower corners and spine tips. Square and firmly bound; interior clean and unmarked, with light toning to the endpapers and a small crease to the lower corner of a few pages.
Dust Jacket: Good or better. The first‑issue jacket retains the $3.00 price (corners clipped), with sunning to the spine, chipping along folds and spine tips, and light toning to the Sinclair Lewis review on the rear panel. A complete and presentable example of a jacket that is increasingly difficult to find in any condition.
Notes ~ Warren’s great American political novel—later named by TIME as one of the 100 best novels since 1923—remains a cornerstone of mid‑century literature. A Very Good / Very Good overall copy and highly collectible, especially with the first‑state jacket.
