It would go on to sell 40,000 copies in England and America by June of 1886. 8vo. [8], 141, [3] pages, including Half-Title page and a leaf of publisher's advertisements at the rear for "A Child's Garden of Verses." Bound and signed by Stikeman & Co., New York in the late 1800's in attractive three-quarter red leather over marbled boards and matching endpapers, spine gilt in 6 compartments, gilt stamped titles, top-edge gilt; leather rubbed with some light wear along the joint's, corners and edges. The interior is clean and unmarked. The front flyleaf is just beginning to separate at the hinge about 3" from the top. Overall, a very collectible copy of one of the most famous pieces of English Literature originally sold in paperback for a Shilling, here nicely rebound in 3/4 leather.
