A near fine copy of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple, the 1982 First Edition / First Printing, signed by Walker in ink on the title page. Published by Harcourt, Brace & Jovanovich, with the correct “First Edition” and BCDE line on the copyright page. Walker’s landmark novel would earn both the 1983 Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, cementing its place as one of the defining works of late‑20th‑century American literature.
Condition: 8vo, 245 pages. Publisher’s purple cloth over tan boards, clean and bright with only a tiny bump to the upper front corner and lower spine tip, a bit of sunning to the edges and slight fading to the spine print. Interior is fresh and unmarked. The unclipped first‑state dust jacket designed by Judith Kazdym Leeds retains the $11.95 price and presents beautifully, with just a small closed tear to the lower rear panel, light wear at the folds and spine ends, faint toning, and a bit of tape visible only on the verso. A far nicer‑than‑usual example—a strong, highly collectible signed copy of this modern classic.
