An attractive 1897 early printing of Kipling's The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book published by Charles Scribner's Sons. These are volumes VII and VIII of 'The Writings in Prose and Verse of Rudyard Kipling' and part of the larger 36 volume Outward Bound Edition published between 1897 and the year of Kipling's death in 1936. Each volume has a frontispiece with a tissue guard and two Illustrative plates. Condition: 8vo. 341 and 228 pages - An outstanding set bound in three quarter dark brown leather over marbled paper covered boards and matching endpapers with gilt stamped titles, floral devices, and five raised bands to spines. Top edges gilt with other edges uncut. Minor wear to edges, corners, spine ends, and bands to most volumes. A bit of toning and scattered foxes to a few pages and a previous owners name on the front blank preliminary page of both volumes.
