A Nice Box set Comprising ~ The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. This is the 1965 Second Edition, each in near fine condition in very good dust jackets and housed in a very good black paper slipcase. Maps are present and in excellent condition at the rear of each volume. Published by Houghton Mifflin Co., Boston and Revised with a new forward by J.R.R. Tolkien, each is a stated Second Edition and Third Printing. The dust jackets are unclipped each with the Houghton Mifflin February 1967 date codes on the front flap. The Fellowship of the Ring has the $6.00 price and The Return of the King and The Two Towers feature the $6.50 price.Condition: 8vo. 9" x 6" - 423, 352 & 440 pages ~ Publishers' black cloth with titles stamped in gilt on the spines. The iconic "Eye of Sauron" on front boards each in different colors of gilt with each upper edge top stained a different color matching the primary color of the Jackets. The Return of the King has some softening to the spine tips a small bump to the lower front corner and some creasing and a small chip to the rear free endpaper. The other two volumes with just typical light shelf wear. The dust jacket for The Two Towers is completely split along the spine, now repaired with tape and protected in a mylar cover. The other jackets show typical shelf wear with some minor creasing, chipping and a few closed tears. The paper slip case show wear with a few spots to the paper and a pretty good bump to the upper left corner. (Check the photos carefully) Overall, a nicer than usual early printing of the revised second edition.
