Stevenson, Robert Louis
THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE
New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1930. First Beaman Edition.

A simply outstanding copy of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic, with 8 wonderful black and white monochrome plates by S.G. Hulme Beaman on heavy card, and chapter heading vignettes. The National Library of Scotland’s Folio magazine described Beaman's illustrations as ‘Perhaps the most powerful twentieth-century illustrations to Jekyll and Hyde’ (issue 1, 2000, p.9).

8vo. Octavo, v, vii, 136 pages. In FINE condition. Bound in the publisher's black cloth with gilt stamped titles and decoration to the front and spine. Top edge dyed red, with deckled outer and tail edges and illustrated endpapers. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket and housed in a very good slipcase with paper labels to the front and tale edge, with a few chips to the paper along the corners and edges and minor soiling and toning to the paper labels.

Indeed, a rare Stevenson collector's edition, quite scarce with original jacket and particularly so with slipcase.
