Isaac Watts was a brilliant and prominent English Poet, Theologian and hymn writer of the time, and this book is considered one of his most influential and popular works entitled; "The World to Come: or Discourses on the Joys or Sorrows of Departed Souls at Death, and the Glory or Terror of Resurrection. To which is prefixed, An Essay toward the proof of a Separate State of Souls after Death. The book was first published in 1777, in Edinburgh by W. Gray & J. Bell more than 30 years after Watts’ death. Condition: 8vo. 441 pages + 2 pages of ads - gorgeous calf leather binding with decoration stamped in blind to the front and rear, gilt stamped titles to the spine with marbled endpapers. The book is square, the binding is tight. Toning and foxing to interior pages. A small, closed tear to the upper title page along with a previous owner's name in ink, a few chips along the outer edge and a creasing to the upper corners of a few pages. Overall, a very collectible copy of this popular Isaac Watts title.
