This distinguished 1926 First American Edition of Winnie‑the‑Pooh has been handsomely rebound by the legendary London bindery Sangorski & Sutcliffe, whose work is prized for its artistry, precision, and enduring beauty. Their binder’s stamp appears on the front pastedown, confirming the provenance of the craftsmanship.

 

A Binding of Exceptional Charm

The volume is finished in half calf with floral paper boards and matching endpapers. The front board features a gilt silhouette of Christopher Robin, while the spine is richly gilt in six compartments, each adorned with alternating gilt character portraits—Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, and Piglet. All edges are gilt, giving the book a luminous presence on the shelf.

Condition

The binding remains very good or better, showing only light rubbing to the edges and spine tips and minor wear along the outer joints. Inside, the text block is tight, bright, and clean, with a 1930 gift inscription on the front blank and a small owner’s stamp on the rear endpaper. Both the binder’s and publisher’s stamps appear on the front endpaper verso.
